Here's the Pictures

In my last post I mentioned that I would take some pictures and post them. So here they are. I can't keep up to all that is happening some of these pictures are already out of date!! But enjoy!!

The first one here is the awesome table that I got at a garage sale. I love the color of the orange tiles!! It was a plain wood table when I got it, so I painted it white and voila! I would love to say that the hydrangeas in this picture are mine, but they are not. They are from my good friend Kate, her hydrangea bush is absolutely gorgeous,, you will see mine a little lower, not so gorgeous yet.

The previous owners of our house had left us this rain barrel. It was never hooked up properly, nor was there a spout to get water out of it, so it just wasn't functional, but it works really well on the deck for pure decoration!

This is the walkway from the back of our garage. It's all flat stones that Art and Sylvia have pulled for us from various places along their travels. And you can also see the cedar rail fence here. Not only does it keep Marley in the backyard, but it look great too. There will be beautiful and full gardens all in the wood chips some day,, this gardening thing takes some time apparently.

Another angle of the fence and the gate into our backyard.

Oh man, my mother in law told me the name of this, here's how I think that it's spelt, phlox. Hopefully I got that right.  These pink ones bloomed first and now we are starting to get some white ones as well.

 And these are my hydrangeas....

Here's a hosta. This one did really well. It was even transplanted in the middle of the summer, but it stayed super green, and full, and actually bloomed quite beautifully.

This is the base of the cabin that Ben's parents are building for Ben. He wanted a bit of a man cave, so this is what we are doing. It's being made all out of recycled wood either leftovers from the addition, or other wood that Ben's parents have collected and no longer need. The cabin will be Ben's space, but it's also going to cover in the hole where the dead cedars are, so that our yard will be completely private again. The front of the cabin will have a small porch and huge windows. I went to my parents place last week and picked out some windows and doors. They had tons of them in their old barn that they didn't need, so I went and choose some out! That was really fun too. There were all shapes and sizes and colors. I am really excited about the door. It's this old red door that is solid wood, and has a ton of character. It even has the old glass window to go with it. It's going to look great!

Another angle of the backyard with our fire pit! Don't worry we haven't used it in a while. It's been way too dry!!

Pretty!

We received a whole bunch of flowers from Ben's parents really good friends, this was one of the lilies we got. Isn't it beautiful!

Night time at the Stenferts.

Man it's HOT!

Wow what a crazy couple of months. I don't even know where to start. Everything just goes by so quickly and all the days just seem to mix together, and for the most part I don't even know what I did yesterday!! Life has been really good though. There is nothing to complain about except for maybe the heat. We do not have air conditioning so it's been a bit tough to handle. The boys are champs though and seem to be making out alright, they each have their own fans. In total we have 6 fans throughout the house, so it is bearable. The other night Ben asked me to hose him down just to cool off before bed. It was pretty funny!!! And thankfully we have one set of parents who has a pool, and the other set has a lake, so we have definitely spent some time there! Thanks mom and dad!! Also our neighbours have a pool and have very kindly offered to let us swim there whenever we want; so that is awesome too!!

What else has been happening at Greentruck B and B? Well June and July have been pretty slow months. We have had 2 bookings. They both went really well. One was an aunt and uncle that I haven't seen in years. It was really neat to catch up with them, and hear how they are making out. They got a chance to meet our 2 little boys, so that was really great!! My grandma actually suggested to them that they come and check it out; it's really great to have family supporting us and encouraging us along the way.  And the other couple that we had come through were from Switzerland. They were on a road trip all through the eastern part of Canada. We were a short stop along the way for them! Again, they were very kind and very easy guests to have in our home.

Our backyard has once more been transformed.  I will post pictures later on this week, but we finished the fences and gates in the backyard!!! Yeah!! Marley, our dog can no longer escape, which I am sure that all of our neighbours are thankful for. She is an escape artist and is always looking for a new way to get out of the house. She would get out often and terrorize the neighbours with her high pitched, really annoying bark.  Even once the fence was up, she dug several holes under the fence and still escaped! But I think, I hope that we have gotten all the holes plugged up now, and it would be a huge challenge for her to get out. We'll see!

We planted a whole bunch more plants where the temporary garage was in the backyard. The plants look a little pathetic at the moment because we transplanted them a little too late, but some of them are blooming, so they will live!! The lilies bloomed, the hydrangeas bloomed, the hostas bloomed and just today we have a new pink flower blooming. I have no idea what it's called. I'll have to get back to you on that one. And then just this week, we put in some mulch and more stones for a pathway. The pathway looks great, and the mulch really cleans up the space.  I say we, but really most of it has been Ben's parents, Art and Sylvia, doing all of the work. We all brainstorm for ideas and they are very good at getting things done! Thank you!!

The foundation for Ben's cabin, or man cave is up. Again this is thanks to Art and Sylvia. Oh, if anyone has windows that they would like to get rid of, we need 2 matching ones for on the front of the cabin. We have most of what we need, it's been fun collecting all of the wood, windows, and supplies over the last couple of months. It's also been fun trying to come up with ideas for decorating it. We are going to go with a seaside home theme. So we are going to paint the walls white, and then there will be sea blue accents, and some dark browns in there too. There will be space for a desk, a small fireplace and a loft. Oh and the latest great idea is to put in sky lights! It's going to be so wonderful! We don't really have an office in our house right now, so the cabin is going to be office ish, but mostly it will be Ben's space where he will be able to relax and unwind.

I was out garage saling a couple of weekends ago, and I found this great table that has orange tiles on the top of it. It's like a Spanish orange. The legs were just plain wood. But anyways I picked it up and painted the wooden parts of it white, and now it's on our deck and adds a cool color and an outdoor kitchen space. I still need to work on getting the right decorative stuff around it to actually make it a kitchen, but it's a great table, and it was a fun project for me.

Well I think that's about it for now. I will take a bunch of pictures this week and post them by the weekend so make sure to check back to see all of the cool things that are happening!! And if anyone needs a place to stay in Barrhaven just let us know!! We'd love to have you.
