Paint, Flooring and Romantic Dinners

The addition is coming along so well!! We are planning on having it open and ready to go for March 1, 2012. We will be having a open house to celebrate the grand opening, look back for more details shortly! I have also set up an online reservation system and website page with B and B Canada. If you would like to stay in our B and B or if you know of anyone else that will need a place to stay, check out the website. It's www.bbcanada.com/greentruck.

What's new with the addition? Well the painting is complete. I had a couple of scares as to whether or not the colors were going to work out. I had intended for one of the rooms to be an off white, grey type color, but when we first started painting it, the room looked very brown, and I didn't think that it was going to be what I had wanted. However once it dried and became a little darker, it was perfect! All in all I an super happy with the painting.

Stenfert Construction has been crazy busy getting all of the tiling and flooring done. Both bathrooms have the walls tiled. And again I am super happy with the way they turned out! You will have to come and check it out! By the end of the day tomorrow all of the hardwood will be finished, and man we are good at choosing flooring! It looks great. The hardwood is wide and a darker color. It also has this really neat texture to it, so it looks very rich. I will take pictures over the next couple of days and post them shortly!

And then by the end of the week the doors should be in, and we should be pretty far along with getting the trim done! At this point we need to get the electrician in, but apparently he's busy.....we need to get the plumber in and we need to get the duct work guy. And as far as I know once those 3 major things have been done we will be set to go!

This past Sunday Ben and I had dinner in the B and B! It was really cozy. We had the fireplace going, and we used the table that we bought for it. We both really love all different kinds of appetizers, so we had some meatballs, perogies, cheese and crackers, and some other little snacks. It was delicious and it felt really neat to be able to sit up there and see all of the hard work that everyone has put into it is coming together!!

P.S. We will not be serving dinners!!! Only breakfasts!

Results of Last Week AND Wednesday February 8 - Pancakes, real maple syrup and sausages

Last week I made a baked egg casserole and bacon! It turned out pretty good. We had a bunch of people that Ben works over for breakfast, after they had played hockey, and they all said that it was delicious!

Tomorrow I will not be having a breakfast. But for February 8th, I will be making pancakes, with real maple syrup and sausages. And there will be an option to have the pancakes stacked with yogurt and fruit, if you desire. We were at my Uncle Kevin's place for breakfast a while back, and he made some mean pancakes and then stacked them with yogurt and fruit. Oh man it was good. Thanks Kevin!

So mark your calendars and let me know if you are able to make it!!

Wednesday January 18th - No breakfast tomorrow, but next week is baked eggs and bacon!!

As a lot of you may know, we usually serve a breakfast on Wednesday mornings to anyone who would like to come and test out some of my breakfast creations, however this week I am not going to be serving anything because I am going to be painting the B and B instead! The mudding, and taping is finished! Having 2 children makes it very difficult to find some time to paint, so tomorrow Ben is home in the morning and Nathan is going to look after Clayton for us, so I should be able to get a least a couple of hours in. Today I painted for about 2 hours and I got one of the rooms primed!

Nathan, who is the owner of Stenfert Construction, got the beginnings of the stairs and the entrance from our house opened up today!! The addition is now part of our home, and a heck of a lot easier to get into. Before today we had a ladder that was going up into the addition either from inside the garage or from the outside of the house into the patio door. The progress right now seems fast. Every day there is something new that is done and happening!

Anyways enjoy the pictures and let me know if you are interested in coming out for breakfast next Wednesday January 25!

This is the view of our backyard from the B and B. It was so beautiful after the snowfall!!

This is the hole in my living room that attaches to the addition! These are the stairs that lead up into the hallway of the addition. And in the second picture you can see a vanity that will be used in one of the bathrooms. Our living room has become storage!

Taping and Mudding and painting

The addition is coming along really well. Thanks so much to some great friends,Steve and Dave who helped to get the drywall done!! Also Stenfert construction put in a lot of extra time and energy to make sure that the drywall was ready for the taper to come in! Nice work!!

This is bedroom number 1. This is obviously the fireplace and then the closet is off to the left. This wall will be painted a light brown and there will be a flat screen TV above the fireplace.

These are the 2 windows in bedroom number 1. The morning sun comes through and it's absolutely gorgeous

This is where the stairs from our house will be connecting to the B & B. The stairs are being built this week and then will be installed next week.

Patrick, the man who is mudding and taping the walls has been working all week to get the mudding finished. It looks phenomenal. The fireplaces and the heaters are all working full blast to make sure that the mud is drying as quickly as possible. It is pretty warm up in the addition, however at this time of year it's very damp so it still takes a little longer then expected to make sure that the mud is dry enough to paint. My mom was planning on coming over this weekend to help with the painting however the mudding will not be fully finished by then so we have to postpone painting. My mom is now planning on coming over the following weekend, and I am going to go out and get the paint on Friday so that I can start to prime the addition on Monday.

And this is bedroom number 2. The view from the patio doors is really great. Our backyard is completely closed off from our neighbours by a cedar hedge, so it really feels like you are away from it all; it's very peaceful. Today it is especially beautiful with all of the snow covering the cedar hedge as well as all of the other big trees.

And the fireplace...

I have chosen all of the paint colors! For those of you who know me quite well, I have been working on a B & B binder now for some time. I have all sorts of picture and colors and inspiration and information on what I want our B & B to look like. This has been my decorating bible.. I have been collecting pictures for quite some time now and had a pretty good idea of what I want it to look like. So to sit down this past week and actually decide on all of the colors was kind of a relief! I finally know what I am going to go with, and the nice thing about paint is that I can always paint over it if I don't like it!

One of the rooms is going to be browns, and greys, with a little bit of white thrown in there. It's going to be very warm, cosy and comfortable. The second room is going to be soft whites, black, and some vibrant pinks and greens. They will both be comfortable, cozy, funky and very inviting. Make sure that you check back for pictures of the painted rooms!

The verdict is......

I finally remembered to take some pictures of breakfast this week! Here is my creation...

The french toast was great. The first thing that I did was make the stuffing, which was really simple, it was some cream cheese with strawberry jam. Once the cream cheese is at room temperature, I used a mixer to blend. I also added in some fresh strawberries. Once that was made, I cut the bread. I first cut it into 2 inch slices, and them took a paring knife and made a pocket. I then filled the pocket with the cream cheese stuffing. Is your mouth watering yet?? Once that was done I beat some eggs, milk and cinnamon together. I then dipped the sandwiches into the egg mixture, put them in my frying pan and cooked until the cream cheese mixture was nice and warm. To make the plate look pretty I put some yogurt, sliced strawberries and icing sugar on top. Mmmmm...yummy!

They were delicious; the only thing that I have to change for next time is the bread that I used. This time I used a fairly crusty bread, so the eggs couldn't soak into the bread, so it was a little crunchier then I would have liked, so next time I will use a softer bread, and also let the sandwiches soak in the egg mixture just a little bit longer. Overall they were very decadent and delicious! A definite menu item for the B & B!!

Stuffed French Toast - Wednesday January 9

About 2 years ago Ben and I went to a bed and breakfast in Kingston, and it was awesome. Everything from the rooms, to the hospitality to the food, to the ambiance were great. The rooms had fireplaces, and big oversized chairs in front of them. The owner recommended a really great place for dinner, and the common room was unique and had a cool history. For breakfast that morning we had stuffed French toast and it was absolutely delicious,, so I am going to try and make that this Wednesday morning!

If you would like to join us please let me know. Breakfast will be served at 8am.

My mom is AWESOME!!

The drywall is done!! Wow, does the addition ever look awesome! I had my aunt Hetty over this evening to go through paint colors and help me chose the right ones(she is really good at decorating and such) and to show her the addition. While I was giving her the tour, she said that there is no turning back now! And it kind of hit me, that we are really doing this thing. We are building an addition that will be very comfortable and luxurious all at the same time. We are going to be opening up a bed and breakfast in the very near future, it's no longer a dream! How exciting is that! The taper was here today and the place should be ready for paint on Saturday!

So you might be wondering why the title of this blog is that my mom is awesome. As you may know Ben and I had another baby in the beginning of December, and it's been a little bit busy and crazy, trying to figure everything out, getting schedules organized and keeping both kids happy. With the bed and breakfast opening there are a lot of things that we need to buy, which means that we need to spend a fair amount of time shopping. Lately, Clayton, the older of our 2 boys has not been very fond of shopping, typical boy I suppose. He lasts for about a half an hour and then he just wants to be let loose. So this past weekend, Ben and I needed to chose some flooring, a door, a vanity and get some paint. And that was going to take more than a half an hour. I asked my parents if they would take Clayton for the afternoon so that we could go shopping. They happily accepted, and Clayton went to their place for the afternoon and ended up having a sleep over. It was AWESOME. We got a lot accomplished. We came home with hardwood flooring and a vanity. And Clayton got to ride the four wheeler, see Lilly and play with Grandma and Grandpa. That is reason number one as to why my mom is awesome.

The second reason is that my mom is coming over on Saturday to help me paint! She is a fantastic painter, and is willing to give up her Saturday to come and help me paint. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
